"Quoth the Raven...nevermore."

My students and I celebrated the life and the death of Edgar Allan Poe the other day. We had a blast and we read some stories, ate some food, and walked around with ravens attached to us. Well, some of us did anyway. So we celebrated on September 7th because I have a book that claims he died on September 7th, only to discover he actually died on October 7th! OOOOPS! hahah. OH well, none of my students have said anything...yet. Here are some pictures from our Edgar day. A few of my colleagues dressed up for the occasion. It was awesome!

Bridal Showers! Tammy's Bridal Shower

Just a quick pic from my friend Tammy's bridal shower. It was a couple weeks ago on a lovely Sunday afternoon. It was beautiful and we had a blast. Here we are, bride and her bridesmaids, posing for a picture.

I've Become Obsessed with Cupcakes!

Scrapbooking is already a pretty intense hobby for me, but lately I've been thinking about cupcakes! I have no idea why, and frankly, anyone who knows me can say that I dont even make very good cookies but there's something about cupcakes that has caught my attention. I recetly discovered a TV show called Cupcake Girls on WE. I think I'm obsessed! Their cupcakes look beautiful and I want to move to Canada (only for a little while) and make cupcakes with these ladies.

I've also checked out their website...(I said I was obsessed already!)

Yikes! It's been 10 years!

My 10 year high school reunion has come and gone. It's hard to believe that I graduated from high school 10 years ago. Sometimes it feels like forever, but then there are times where it doesn't seem that long ago. Michael and I went and even though there were very few people who attended (come on PHS, we graduated with over 500 people...what's up...can't make it to your reunion??!!) I do have to say that it was a good time and it was fun to see people that I haven't seen in a long time.

When I think back to May/June of 2000 when I was graduating from high school and ready to conquer all that Bloomington had to offer, it is funny to think how life has changed so much. I was so sure that I was going to Bloomington to become some great journalist and I would live in a large city and enjoy the fast paced life of deadlines and late night coffee. Ten years later, I am about to start my 6th year of teaching and I can't imagine doing anything else. Yes, education has its moments..its ups and downs where I'm convinced I must be insane to want to be a teacher. But I can't imagine doing or being anything else. And as I sit in my house in good ole' Niles Michigan, typing on my blog, listening to the rain, and watching my 2 lazy dogs sleep, I can't imagine being anywhere else. Everyone else can take the city life...I'm good here.

June 13th...1 year anniversary

On June 13th, 2009, I married my best friend Michael. We celebrated our 1 year anniversary last month and we celebrated with some friends we met while on our honeymoon. We've kept in contact with them and we've created a great friendship. They came to our house and spent the weekend with us so that we could all celebrate our anniversary together, (Jaci and Michelle were also married on June 13th). Here are the photos from our weekend!

Ode To My Flower Garden

It has only taken me 3 years, but I finally have a flower garden that I am quite proud of! It is located in the front of the house. I have my father in law to thank for getting me started on my way to being a gardener. He planted a few of the flowers in our yard last summer and they made it through the winter (and my lack of gardening knowledge) and some of them are back with full force! The rest of them are flowers I planted myself!

Claire's Scrapbook

Hi Everyone! Sorry it's been a while since my last post! I need to be better about posting more often, but there are a lot of things going on right now, so I'm sure I'll have tons of stuff to post!! (Plus, its summer...there's more free time!)

These are some pictures from the scrapbook that I made my cousin Claire. She was the flowergirl in my wedding. I believe the scrapbook is on its way to sunny California, where Claire lives. I wanted to make it as a memory book for her and a way to say thanks for being so gosh darn cute!

A typical Friday night

Had to upload some pics of Molly and Toby. Last night, Michael and I went to dinner and then came home for some snuggle time on the couch with the dogs. We definitely have two dogs who enjoy laying around. I grabbed the camera and took some quick pics. Molly are Toby are the photogenic members of the family...that's for sure!

"They're creepy and they're cooky..."

A few months ago, Amanda and I went to see the Addams Family in Chicago. It was an awesome show that included Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Mortica. It was a musical comedy about family, life, and love. We had a great time.

My BIG Christmas Project!

For Christmas, I decided to make my family members a Christmas card box. I saw the idea on the Cricut website and thought it looked really neat. The boxes that I made looked nothing like the one on the Cricut site, but the idea came from there.

I made the boxes because my mother, mother-in-law, and my grandmothers keep the cards that they received for the holidays. (So, if you've sent my mom a Christmas card, she might still have it.)

Making these boxes TOOK FOREVER! I painted them and made each one unique by adding different scrapbook paper, stickers, ribbon or glitter.

Here are examples of 2 of them. I will upload the others soon! The white one was given to my Grandma Faye and the pink one was given to my mom.

Oh....Grandpa...

Recently my family decided to start a new Christmas tradition. With the economy being what it is, we all agreed that it was silly to spend tons of money on each other. So we agreed to place our names in a hat and exchange gifts through the "Secret Santa" method. Well, the first year we did this, we all knew that whoever drew Grandpa Jack's name, would have an interesting time. Our dear grandfather made a list of ridiculous gifts just so he could get a response out of all of us. But, little did he know....he was in for a surprise himself. On his list, grandpa asked for hunting lessons from Sarah Palin. (Good grief...) So my mom and my brother worked together to create him a Sarah Palin Christmas! In the pictures, you can see that he really enjoyed his surprise. For Christmas that year, he received a fur hat covered in moose antlers and a photograph of Sarah with her "signature" at the bottom.
This year, he asked for private singing lessons from Susan Boyle, but my husband was not as creative...so he just bought grandpa a new coat! :)
The bottom line is; sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for!

A Winter Scrapping Session

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a great holiday! I recently spent some time downstairs in my scrap room, (getting scrapbook supplies for Christmas definitely helped!) and instead of scrapping recent pictures from this Christmas, I chose to scrap some photos from winter of '08-09. The layout that I have uploaded is of a small trip that Michael and I made to Chicago to see some friends. We had a great time. Michael and I both love Chicago in the winter, especially when the lights are on the trees and everything looks so festive.

With that said, I have a mission for myself. I am going to try and post some of the layouts that I have recently worked on. They range from family to friends, but they are all from '08-09. For some reason, I am in a nostalgic mood and I figured that scrapping some old photos will be good for me. Make sure you check back tomorrow....I have a Christmas layout of my grandpa Jack. It's hilarious!
